How to insert Carriage Return / New Line

Support

Administrator
It is true that a "new line" control character cannot be directly entered in the "Target Edit" text field.

There are three options available for adding a new line control character:

1. Copy & Paste

Copy an existing (non-visible) new line control character (e.g., from a text in Notepad or from the RC-WinTrans "Source Text" edit field) and insert/paste it into the "Target Edit" field.

-> Copy (Ctrl+C) and insert with the "Paste" command (Ctrl+V).

2. MS Word

The text in the "Target Text" field can be edited with Microsoft Word.
Command: "Tools" | "MS Word" (Available since RC-WinTrans 9.)

In Word you can enter a new line with "Return." Use the "Save" command in Word to write the text back to RC-WinTrans.

3. Multi-Line Editor Add-On for RC-WinTrans

RC-WinTrans customers can download this add-on from the RC-WinTrans 9 customer download area:

On Windows 7 we have tested it with MS Word 2007.
I cannot confirm if it works for Windows 7 and Word 2003- maybe.

Thank you for your reply.

I see. The shortcuts in the "Shortcut Properties" dialog box are not up to date- they are for .Net 1.1! We will update this with the shortcuts used with .Net 2.0 through 4.0.

Workaround: Open the Menu view, select the shortcut entry in the "Captions" tab view, then enter the target value "Strg+C" manually in the Translation Edit bar.

We could not get it working with 'Strg' either.

I tried to create a sample with VS2010 using 'Ctrl' and/or 'Strg' but there is an error message:
"error RG0000: Requested value 'Strg' was not found."

There may be a problem at least since VS2008 and also with VS2010. Or maybe it is the .Net Framework?! Here is what I found:

Migration from V7 Database to V9 Database

This is not possible because of how the data migration works.
.
RC-WinTrans X8/9 does not read the V7 database (where all the translation data is available) directly. Instead the migration process uses RC-WinTrans 7 to create the translated target file(s), then RC-WinTrans X8/9 to import the data from the translated files. When importing data from a translated file it is no longer possible to determine whether an item's text, when identical to the source text, was translated identically to the source text in the V7 database or not translated at all.
.
So this is the reason- the data from the old V7 database is migrated/imported indirectly using translated target files.

Yes, this language code is to be used for .NET (C#) assemblies.
For Win32 EXE/DLL (C++) this language code not exists.

We will check it and return to you.

Workaround:
Use two translation projects. One for your .NET files and one for your Win32 files.
For the project with the Win32 files use the languages Chinese (Simplified) (zh-CN) and Chinese (Traditional) (zh-TW).

Fix:
We will fix this for the next RC-WinTrans 9 service release.

It depends. When we have (important) bug fixes and/or new features.
Usually every 2-3 months.

Try running the "Update Database" command once again with the option "Force update for unchanged source files" checked.

No.

A protocol file is created only when the file has been changed (new, deleted or changed item).
No changes -- no protocol file.

This is correct. The "Changed Source" view shows items that have been translated (text/resized items) and modified in the current source file. New items are not shown in this view.

>> "Force update for unchanged source files"
>> Is there a known issue that means it pays to always run this option twice?

No. The database update works very well. There are no known problems.

RC-WinTrans may not be able to find (cannot access) the data for this item as expected and reports this as an error.
It may not be a problem but if you want you can send us the DLL to check (e-mail: support@schaudin.com).

I cannot verify how it works for your files but you will get a report when any resources have been changed and the database has been updated.

Yes. Use a TU's "Translate" attribute.

Example (VBA code):
. Dim TU As TransUnit
. Set TU = RCWinTrans.ActiveTransUnit
. TU.Translate = False

See also the online help under "class TransUnit":
http://www.rc-wintrans.schaudin.com/vbahelp/

Note: We have a free VBA add-on ("Extra Functions") available for downloading.
It adds some useful functionality to the RC-WinTrans application. The VBA code
used to create the add-on is open source.
