Error when starting RcWinTrans 9.3

Hello HeiWoMa,

correct, the Microsoft tool Vb6cli.exe does not help to fix this problem for VBA.

The problem it documented in the Microsoft knowledgement base:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177799

Cause:
"When a control is installed for run time use only (such as those installed by an application
created with Visual Basic), if the Visual Basic Development Environment is installed onto the
same machine afterwards and the existing control is of equal or higher version than that from
the CD, the license key for that control is not updated. "

We still do not know how this can be fixed. Running the VBA installation once again does not help.

Visual Basic message:
"License information for this component not found. You do not have an appropriate license to use this functionality in the design environment."

Description (Microsoft): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318597

Fix -- ToDo:
1. download: VB6CONTROLS.REG (Registry file. Contains the design time licenses for all of the VB6 controls.)
2. start the Registry Editor: click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. in the Registry Editor dialog box, click Import on the File menu.
4. select the VB6Controls.reg file, and then click Open. This step inserts all of the Visual Basic 6.0 ActiveX Controls license keys in the registry.
5. ready.

Remark: RC-WinTrans 9.3 and RC-WinTrans 9.4 uses the ActiveX control mscomctl.ocx in the system macro file (SystremMacros.macro). The use of the mscomctl.ocx causes the error message from the VB system on your Windows system. The system macro from RC-WinTrans 9.2 (and earlier) did not make use of the mscomctl.ocx.

v9.4: Write Target of a CSV (Tab separated) fails

We made two minor changes to our "Tab Sep. Text" file converter in V9.4 but we do not see a reason that the target file will be created with the source language text. We have checked this once again.
If you can send us your database file (.fsmdb) (and the/one source csv file) we would like to check it using your data. Please send it to support@schaudin.com.

Hello Schneider,

>> <Might this have to to with the fact that the source dll is obfuscated?

Yes. This will be the reason. It does not work with an obfuscated .NET assembly.

Opening Workspace Modifies fsmdb-Files

Support

Hello Michael,
this is true. A database file (.fsmdb) will be modified always.

The only option to avoid this is not to check-out the .fsmdb file from your source control system -- then the database file is read-only and RC-WinTrans cannot change it.

Hello Michael,

it will be fxed with the next (June or July 2014) RC-WinTrans 9.4 service release (next to the current build version 9.4.0.76/April 2014).

Correction (December 2014):

It is fixed for RC-WinTrans 10 (February 2015) and for the 9.4 update in February 2015.

Not export of items with status 'exclude from...'

Hello reiner,

>> How can I exclude items to be exported with status 'exclude from translation'.

do you want to export (all) excluded items to e.g. a text file or an Excel sheet?
Is your first problem is that you cannot select all (and only those) items which have been set as "Excluded from Translation" for exporting them?

Note: the translation status "needs translation" is something different to an item which is set as "Excluded from Translation".

Please clarify.

.
Set the "Excluded from Translation" items as not to be visible -- hide the items.
Uncheck the "Show Items Excluded from Translation" menu item or the toolbar button.

Menu command: "View" | "Show by Translation Status" | "Items set as Excluded from Translation"
...or use the appropriated Toolbar button.

Hallo JM,

have you enabled to display more then one target language?

Open the "Languages" dialog and set only ONE target language (source + one target lang) to be visible. Uncheck all languages except the one you want to edit at a time.

Projects List missing (9.4)

Hello jmv,

> We the new V9.4, the "Project Overview" pane does not show projects list, when there are in the "Start Page"

This is true. Changes have been implemented for the "Projects Overview" tab view as well as for the "Start Page".

"Start Page":
It is new that the start page now shows the recently opened projects: "Recent Project" list.
Same for the menu command "File" | "Recent Project".
There is no "Remove" command for this list.

"Projects Overview" tab:
An opened project is shown in the "Projects Overview" tab and it is new that the project will be removed from the view when the project is closed.
To keep a project listed in the "Projects Overview" tab, use the project option "Keep the project in the "Projects Overiew" tab view".
Menu command: "Project" | "Properties..." | "Keep the project in the "Projects Overiew" tab view" checkbox.

Hello JM,

this error message is always prompted to the output tab when writing a file without BOM.
It is a fault but the target file is created correctly without BOM.
You can ignore this error message.

It will be fixed in the next release (next to the current RC-WinTrans 9.4.0.76/April 2014).

Thank you for posting this error.

Right. There is a bug in the file converter macro "FileConverters.macro". Version: "F-1019 (April 2014)".
An additional Byte is added to the end of the file when writing a target file without BOM.

We will fix this.

Hello JM,

> Is there a way to optimze MDBs when we work on projects for a long time, and when they are now huge?
>
This are problems comming with an increasing number of items (resource files) and with an increasing number of target languages.

> Splitting the project will not be an option as we lose too many benefits.
>
I understand but you will need to split the project.

You can use the "Export Translation Project" to make a copy of the project with less source file and/or less target languages.

Try: Export a project with all files but with only one target language. Check if you can work with the 60000 string project. Then you could try it with a project with more then one target language. ...or to reduce the files.

If you want you can send us your database file (.fsmdb) (to support@schaudin.com) and we will check what would be best.

RCWintrans error on loading the workspace

Support
Support

Hello,

RC-WinTrans saves a translation data file (an XML file) in the database (.fsmdb). One for each file an for each language.
For any reason, this data file (for "UserActivityLogView.resx" and the language "da") cannot be extracted out of the database.

Try/Fix:
Remove the source file "UserActivityLogView.resx" from the project.
Then add the file again to the project.

This creates a new data file which will be added newly to the database.

Please try this.

This can be an installation problem of the common VBA extenstension for MS MFC applications (APC).

Try: Reinstall RC-WinTrans. Start the setup with "Run as administrator".

The RC-WinTrans application (COM object) is not registered in the Windows registry.

If you have the RC-WinTrans Demo version then this is correct because the Demo will not be registered by the setup.

If you have the RC-WinTrans Global or the Translator edition please let me know.

WinTrans 9.4 ignores some translations from X8

Support

Hello phild,

RC-WinTrans 9 was configured to make known the DevExpress properties ".Caption" and ".Description" as text to be translated.
Before: This properties have been added to the database as of restype "Unkonwn" (restype="x-unknown").

As a result of the "changed" resource tpye, the update module of RC-WinTrans takes the item as a new item. A previous entry in the database (with restype="x-unknown") will be removed and the item added as new item with the appropriated resource type. For the update module, a change of the resource type is the same as it is an other item as before.

A translation for this DevExpress items is going lost when the item is added newly with the correct resource type.
We are very sorry for having any troubles and the need to retranslate this items.

What is it what you are doing when you say ".. when importing translations from an xlf file" ?
Is your source file an XLIFF file? What means "importing translations" ?

In your previous data file the trans-unit was set as not to be translated: translate="no"
This means that the target text ("10A") was still set as not to be used. RC-WinTrans does not remove the target text when a transl-unit is set as not to be translated.
The target could also removed for the previous trans-unit.

It is not clear to me what have been the processes (command, function) for getting the trans-unit to the right.
I think a reason could be that the trans-unit was set as not to be translated. But on the other hand the trans-unit was added newly (!) (state="new") by RC-WinTrans.

Is the data file (trans-unit left side) created by RC-WinTrans X8? The other one to the right with RC-WinTrans 9?

Please answer my questions. Maybe this can help me.
